College students to grill gubernatorial candidates on Sunday night

Organizers of one-hour debate want your questions

Republican Nathan Deal, Democrat Roy Barnes and Libertarian John Monds will face off in Midtown on Sunday night for what’s being called the Georgia gubernatorial race’s first student-led debate.

Organized primarily by Georgia Tech student government leaders, the event will feature panelists from the University of Georgia, Georgia College, and Morehouse College and cover issues of particular interest to voters between the age of 18 and 30 including the economy, transportation, taxes, higher education, and energy policy.

Organizers also want to hear what their peers would like the three candidates to discuss. From a press release about the debate:

Students will have the opportunity to pose questions to the candidates via the debate website www.gastudentvote.com. Questions will be selected from that website and used during the debate. The interactive and web-based nature of the debate makes it truly unique and helps students connect with the election cycle in ways previously unexplored or underutilized. In addition to the debate, universities will hold voter registration drives on their campuses and promote active participation in the various statewide and federal races.

Georgia Public Broadcasting will air the one-hour debate live at 7 p.m.
