Over the course of the past few weeks, I've been experiencing frequent Coen Brothers encounters.

To wit:
1) A hilarious improv mash-up of the Coen Brothers' stoner classic The Big Lebowski and Shakespeare's gender-bending identity farce "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" at Dad's Garage. According to their Web site they are "the only company in the world with the go-ahead from the Coen Bros. themselves to produce this play!"

2) The online critics society beat AFI to the punch by publishing their list of the top 100 debut films of all time.

The Coen Brothers' Blood Simple charted at #8.

3) Chinese master Zhang Yimou's A Woman, a Gun, and a Noodleshop (aka A Simple Noodle Story), platforming in U.S. release, opened and closed in Atlanta, is a clever remake of the aforementioned Blood Simple.

4) The Coen's themselves kicked up all sorts of internet buzz with the release of the trailer for True Grit, their own reworking of the 1969 Henry Hathaway, John Wayne classic:

The Oscar® race is officially on.
