Piedmont Road fire causes massive traffic nightmare, possibly ruins Halloween forever
Don’t drive anywhere near the mess

Nearly 100 firefighters are battling an early morning blaze at a Halloween store in northeast Atlanta that’s created a headache for morning commuters.
The fire, which the AJC says was reported around 5:15 a.m., has forced fire crews to close Piedmont Road near I-85 between Lakeshore Drive and Lambert and created logjams for motorists trying to find detours. (For the decadent among you, that’s roughly the area between Tower Package Store and Tattletales. Here’s a Google Maps shot with the road closure marked in green.)
According to tweets and news reports, the fire at the building that used to house the Buckhead Design Center — and which recently has been providing all the costumes-in-bags and fake teeth a trick-or-treater could want — has caused stop-go traffic on Cheshire Bridge, Briarcliff and surrounding roads.
(If you’re reading this in traffic and are looking for a kind soul to share your pain, follow friendly gent GriftDrift on Twitter. He appears to be stuck in the mess.)
No injuries have been reported in the fire. A bunch of rip-off Avatar and Mad Men costumes are probably gonna be hard to find this year, however.
