FBAC Va-Hi hopes to expand coverage area

Posted By on Mon, Oct 11, 2010 at 4:24 PM

Following a rash of six armed robberies in six weeks — the majority of which were committed just outside their coverage area — FBAC (Fighting Back Against Crime) Virginia-Highland is discussing expanding its reach. Supported by monthly dues paid by residents and area businesses, FBAC Virginia-Highland hires off-duty APD officers to patrol the streets five nights a week in five-hour shifts.

Below is a map of FBAC's current coverage area, the area that would be included in the expansion and fun little pistols to represent where the six most recent armed robberies took place.

To support the expansion — click here to see of a list of the streets that stand to be included — FBAC representatives have said they'd need at least 100 additional businesses and/or residents to contribute $25 a month in dues. Zone 6 Commander, Major John Dalton, told the Va-Hi Safety Team that he is "aware" and "concerned about" the about the number of burglaries and robberies in Virginia-Higland in recent weeks. In response, members of APD's FIT Unity (plain clothes and tactical officers) have been deployed in the area.
