T.I. helped save Midtown Atlanta jumper's life — really

Posted by Thomas Wheatley on Wed, Oct 13, 2010 at 5:47 PM

T.I. saves the day. Or at least the possible Midtown jumper's life.

Atlanta Police tell CL the rapper visited the scene of today's incident and told officers he wanted to speak with the unidentified man who around 4 p.m. had threatened to jump from the 22-story Colony Square Building.

Officers told the possible jumper and he came down.

"He came down and T.I. was waiting and they talked for a few minutes before he was taken to Grady [Memorial Hospital]," Officer James Polite tells CL.

We've got a feeling the federal judge who's set to review T.I.'s recent probation violation will look very favorably upon this noble effort.

(H/T to folks on Twitter mumbling about this being true, which we couldn't believe)

Does anyone see the PR stunt here V-103 in the building, TI due in court with a good chance he might be going back to jail? Where in the police handbook does it say that you would let TI talk down a jumper? What would Atlanta's liability be if the jumper had jumped after the police let the jumper talk to TI? This was all a setup, with a little research of some cell phone calls, texts and emails I bet the proof would surface.

doubt its a setup.. too many factors involved.. don't think ryan cameron (who is the one who TI heard on radio and called in) is going to risk his career and reputation for Tip

That would have been a lot of cops, a lot of traffic and a lot of frustration for some fleeting PR stunt. Good for him, although I seriously it will have any affect on his legal problems.

Amen, amen & amen. So, I'm getting off from work; as soon as get in the car I hear the story and immediately my heart goes out to this young man (not that I'm that much older). Then as ther story progresses, T.I's name comes into the picture. The next thing I know T.I is on the scene and is allowed to send the young man a recorded video message! "Where de do dat at?"....I guess at the APD!! I smell PR stunt all over this! And it wouldn't be that hard to pull off! All u need is V103 station mgr. Reggie, T.I and a willing participant. I love it! When you have money, you can make things like this happen!!

With all the speculations!! Has anyone stopped to ask why the man wanted to jump? Was there a history of critical events in his life? Filing false records will get you what? LOCkED!! TI is one of the few celebs that takes the time and money to help school kids each year, which shows he cares. I applaud him for stepping up to the plate, and I'm not a rapper fan at all!!

I think it was very good thing to do no matter what the motive. I hope it made a difference to the guy...

based on what little i know about T.I.'s character, i'd guess he had a genuine desire to help in a bad situation.

this is what i have a proble with - a police spokesperson said the jumper "will not face charges".

TI is a really good guy who just happens to carry around machine guns. Everyone has their hobbies.

I think this whole *jump* matter should surely win some kinda marketing/PR prize for sheer creativity AND execution of strategy. Wish I'd thought of it!
