Halloween events — from the tawdry to the terrifying

Halloween brings out the monster in all of us, especially when sexy costumes and alcohol are involved. And over the course of the next two weekends, Atlanta’s clubs and bars will offer parties that include everything from run-of-the-mill costume contests to body piercing shows, burlesque and nude fire dancing. From the tawdry to the tame, here are just a few of the ways you can get into the Halloween spirit.

HeXxt Halloween Spooktacular

With its haunting aesthetics and mix of industrial, deathrock and goth dance tunes, HeXxt events have a touch of Halloween no matter what part of year they take place. But to celebrate the season, this month’s edition features perilous performances by Chaotic Suspensions, the Zombie Go-Go Squad and the HeXxt Horror Troupe. Local burlesque favorites Syrens of the South (also hosting the Dangerous Curves Ahead burlesque tour at Eyedrum on Halloween night) will put on a terrifyingly titillating performance, and DJs Aesthetic, Flynt and Vulture will spin ghoulishly appropriate tunes. There will also be giveaways from Netherworld Haunted House, Troma Films and others.

Black Cat Party/Haunted Warehouse Party

Long running goth/fetish event promoter Secret Room offers two Halloween parties in upcoming weekends. First is the Black Cat Party, with dark dance favorites spun by DJ Omac, and Sean & Maus from Tampa’s the Castle. There will also be a sexy latex performance by Rebecca’s Rubber Room, go-go dancers and a $500 costume contest prize.

The following week, Secret Room presents the Haunted Warehouse Party, a rave-like event featuring DJs such as Omac, Nemesis, Jennocide, Evil Z, Doomsday and others. Local goth rock band Zombie Tribe will also perform.

Annual Halloween Party

Longtime Atlantans might remember her from her days as a dancer at now-defunct S&M club the Chamber (now the Jungle). Others may have seen her in Playboy, Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 or her occasional performances at the Pink Pony and Secret Room. Either way, when world-renowned performance artist Gia Nova returns to the Pony for the club’s Halloween party, she will be doing an all-nude show. And if the T&A wasn’t enough, she’s also doing sideshow acts such as fire breathing, walking on glass and other exciting feats. She’ll also be signing copies of the new Dead Moon comic book in which she appears as Lucine.

Free before 7 p.m., $10 after. 6:30 p.m., 10:30 p.m., 12:30 a.m. Oct. 30 (additional performances Oct. 25-29). Pink Pony, 1837 Corporate Blvd., Atlanta. 404-634-6396. www.showbars.com.

Saints and Sinners Halloween Bash

One of the few Buckhead bars to survive the area’s restructuring (albeit in a new location), Fado offers an adventurous Irish twist to Halloween festivities. Costumed patrons can compete for a $1,000 cash prize, with other giveaways throughout the night. Resident DJ Jazzy Jeff (not the one of Fresh Prince fame) will spin ’80s and ’90s dance, Britpop and modern favorites. While you’re there, you can try the Pickleback, a seemingly monstrous concoction that consists of a shot of Jameson followed by a shot of pickle juice. Actually much smoother and more delightful than it might sound.

Free before 9 p.m., $10 after. 8 p.m. Oct. 30. Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant. 273 Buckhead Ave., Atlanta. 404-841-0066. www.fadoirishpub.com.

Seek Shelter this Halloween

A little more than a week after HeXxt’s Halloween party at the Shelter, DJ Aesthetic presents his own Halloween Eve bash. Joining him will be DJs Silk Wolf and Anthony, as well as Marilyn Manson drummer Ginger Fish serving as VJ for the night. For those who aren’t too old for trick-or-treating, there will be free candy and other giveaways, including passes to an advance screening of the new film Skyline. A costume contest with a $500 cash prize will round out the festivities, and there will be Three Olives Vodka drink specials.

$10 with costume, $12 without. 9 p.m. Oct. 30. The Shelter, 2101 Tula St. N.W., Atlanta. 678-694-7435. www.theshelteratl.com.
