Stupid / Booze / Crime Purple drank: Probably pretty awesome

OK, now that THAT'S out of the way, the AJC reported this morning that two robbers — at least one of whom was armed with a gun — stormed into a Buckhead CVS pharmacy and stole about half-a-dozen 12-ounce bottles of promethazine syrup. Promethazine is a codeine-like cough and allergy medicine, and is also the main ingredient in the oft-rapped about concoction "purple drank."
Ostensibly, it's crazy/weird that men with guns would enter a CVS and bypass registers filled with money in order to get some cough medicine ... or is it? Check this shit out (from the AJC):
A pint of purple drank typically sells for at least $400, with one ounce going for $40, [Ron Peters, a professor of public health at the University of Texas] told the Houston Chronicle recently.
ONE OUNCE FOR $40??? That's $6.66 a teaspoon and that's crazy. Must be good, right? Well before you take a hammer to your piggy bank (or a gun to your local CVS), keep in mind it also kills people:
Purple drank is confirmed or suspected to have caused the deaths of several rap and hip-hop musicians, including DJ Screw, Big Moe and Pimp C.

Warren, I don't think you're up to date on your commonly abused prescription drugs.
People have had fatal overdoses on the purple drank. It's a legit drug to rob a pharmacy for at $400/pint.
