Mugger snatches 12 year old's purse, scores more than Bonne Bell Lip Smackers

Police released details today about yet another of the 15-some-odd muggings that have taken place in VaHi, Midtown and Inman Park since September. This one was unique in that the victim was a purse-toting 12-year-old girl.

Just before 2 p.m. on October 12, the girl was walking through a private park in the 800 block of Lake Avenue in Inman Park with her doctor (kinda weird, right?) when a black man snatched the $65 Vera Bradley purse from her shoulder, pushing her to the ground in the process. There were two additional witnesses to the incident, one of whom followed the mugger's 2007 red Chevy Impala until he lost him on the interstate. Among the contents of the were an iPod, a Verizon cell phone, a $35 Vera Bradley wallet and 20 bucks in cash.

I realize it's beside the point, but I don't remember carrying a purse at 12. If I did carry a purse at 12, prospective muggers sure would have been disappointed because there certainly wouldn't have been anything of value in it (besides my collection of NKOTB trading cards, which have appreciated in value with time) and certainly not a cell phone or iPod. Oh, yeah. Neither iPods nor purse-sized cell phones existed yet.

Here's a composite sketch of the off-puttingly friendly-faced criminal, another to add to your collection:
