Do you often get into fights so intense that your thumbs are sore and stiff for days afterward? And do those fights usually involve well-trained warriors and costumed supervillains? If so, then you might want to put the control pad down and RSVP for Capcom’s Fight Club, making its Southern debut after a successful debut recently in Chicago.

While this Fight Club might attract people who spend a lot of time in basements fighting bouts of insomnia and who have trouble separating fantasy from reality, it won’t be as physically violent and cerebrally subversive as the book and film that inspired it. Instead, it will be a somewhat exclusive, first-come, first-serve event where video game enthusiasts can get to play the highly-anticipated Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds game before it is available to the general public.

The Marvel vs. Capcom series pits Marvel Comics heroes and villains such as the X-Men and Iron Man against characters from Capcom games such as Resident Evil and Bionic Commando in Mortal Kombat-style fighting action. New playable characters in this third installment include Marvel villains Magneto and M.O.D.O.K., Bionic Commando hero Nathan Spencer and Sir Arthur from Ghosts ‘n Goblins.

In true Fight Club style, few details have been released about other goings on at this event. There will be free pizza and drinks, as well as door prizes for the first 400 people to arrive. But if there are any rules to this Fight Club, it's to talk freely about Fight Club as much as you want.

Capcom Fight Club. 585 Wells St. N.W. Oct. 28, 8 p.m.-11 p.m. Free with rsvp to fightclubatl@konsolekingz.com
