South African artist Roger Ballen presents Boarding House, an exhibition of photography, at Jackson Fine Art. The black and white images that Ballen produces are anything but documentary. He paints, sculpts, arranges, and altogether interferes with composition of his photographs, while working in a tone of gritty realism not entirely unlike Walker Evans. The Georgia-born Angela West also opens an exhibition of color photographs, Trigger. More info at JFA.

The Cornbred Galley, located conveniently in the back half of Homegrown, hosts a closing party for their horror-inspired group show, "It Came From..." Might be the right choice to get you in the mood for Halloween weekend. More details at Cornbred.

EK Huckaby

Poem 88 will bring in a couple musicians to add to the atmosphere of EK Huckaby's excellent show, Excursus. From 3 to 5 pm, Satchel Mallon will play solo on guitar and from 7 to 9pm Magicicada will create "microworlds, wonderful realms, with dark strata and thousands of creatures in conversation and activity." Interpret that as you will. More details on Poem 88.

This is the last weekend to catch one of Lee Walton's Momentary Performances. Check the schedule at Flux Projects to see when and where you can find one.
