Jive-talk: Atlanta History Center revisits the days of swing

Posted By on Tue, Nov 9, 2010 at 11:40 AM

What's old is new again. But then it aged a few years and got old again. But then it got some botox injections and shed a few pounds. And now... Oh, heck... Who can keep up? And when the trend is fun, who cares?

After a huge resurgence in the late 90s and then a quiet period, big band and swing dancing seem to be making a bit of a comeback. We'd call it a Deja Swing Back or something if we were interested in describing minor trends with overly-clever, pop-journalism hybrid terms. But if you're smart (and apparently we're not quite there with you), you'll avoid all that and just show up at Atlanta History Center's Dancing Through Time: USO to learn a little more about swing and the other vintage dance forms that just won't quit. The day of events takes place on Saturday, November 13, 2010, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm and examines the USO, from past to present, and will include live music, swing dance clinics, reenactments, films, and demonstrations. No jive. Or rather lots of jive. Check it out at www.atlantahistorycenter.com
