Fulton County Commissioner Robb Pitts has made no secret of the fact he really, really wants the financially imperiled Georgia Music Hall of Fame (and possibly Sports Hall of Fame) to move from Macon to Fulton County.

In a release distributed yesterday — entitled "Commissioner Pitts Questions Motives of Hall of Fame Authority" — Pitts says he believes the powers-that-be at the GMHF have conspired to keep that dream from becoming a reality. Says Pitts:

“Based on what I am hearing, there is an orchestrated effort to keep the museum out of Atlanta/Fulton County and relocate it to Athens, Georgia."

We kind of teased Pitts last month when his office sent out a release declaring the commissioner's excitement that the museums might soon call Atlanta/Fulton County home. We teased him, you see, because the release went out days after a mandatory meeting for the cities and counties who'd be submitting proposals. Because neither Atlanta nor Fulton County sent representatives to the meeting, both were ineligible to participate in the bidding process (this according to GMHF director Lisa Love).

Despite the GMHF's insistence that nine individuals in Fulton were notified about the request for proposal, Pitts says no one ever got the memo. Rather than directly contacting the County, the GMHF authority notified the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and asked them to get in touch with individual counties. Pitts contends that because Fulton County had already expressed interest in getting the museums, they should have been contacted by the hall of fame directly.

What do you think? Is Pitts paranoid or is he onto something? Is Fulton County being blackballed?
