Likely nominees Franco and Hathaway to co-host next Oscars

Well, this could be awkward. James Franco and Anne Hathaway will serve as co-hosts of the 83rd Academy Awards broadcast on Feb. 27. They're both hot, talented young actors -and they're both also potential Oscar nominees this year. Franco's a shoo-in for his role as trapped hiker Aron Ralston in 127 Hours, a film that's all but a one-man show from Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle. In Love and Other Drugs, Hathaway plays a young woman with Parkinson's disease who gets naked a lot, which would probably guarantee a nomination if people only liked the movie more. If both or either of them get nominated, what'll happen? Will they return to the seats when they announce the winners? Will they be able to disguise their elation if they win, or disappointment if they lose, as they continue hosting? Did the producers need to make the Oscars even more uncomfortable to watch?

Franco and Hathaway have won praise for live performances on "Saturday Night Live," and Hathaway memorably and amusingly sang a duet about Frost/Nixon with Hugh Jackman at the 2009 Oscars (around the four-minute mark), so maybe it'll work. I couldn't find an embeddable version of the Oscar clip, so here's an awards-themed sketch from Hathaway's recent "SNL:"
