Jason Travis' "Personified" opens tomorrow night at Puritan Mill

It feels a little like overkill to tell you, beloved reader, that Jason Travis has this totally baller ongoing photo project called Persona; it's been written about, like, everywhere. But we're all about bandwagons here at CL so whatever, let's keep talking about it. (We jest but this is a badass project.)

In case you haven't checked out Marie Claire, USA Today, Gizmodo, Nerve, The Atlantan, NotCot, Kotaku, or Creative f***ing Loafing in the past year, Persona is an ever-growing series of split-screen photos—one half showing the person, one half showing the arranged and exposed contents of their bags. In three years this has turned from something simple in concept to a compelling, engaging and telling look at the human condition. No, seriously.

Tomorrow night at Puritan Mill, Travis celebrates the three year anniversary of the photo series with a show called (wait for it...) Personified. The exhibition will feature large-sized versions of a selection of photos from the series.

(Full disclosure: the writer of this post has had her photo taken for the Persona series. But to be fair, it was while she was interviewing Jason Travis for another article. So it was in the line of duty. Which makes it legit or something. And no, we're not posting the photo. She looks all puffy and hungover.)

Personified by Jason Travis. Opens Dec. 1. 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Puritan Mill. 916 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard. Thru Feb. 2011.
