The holidays are here, which means there will be plenty of unwrapping going on in the next few weeks. But unwrapping takes on a whole new meaning as numerous burlesque troupes from Atlanta and beyond take to local stages to reveal their own special offerings, starting with two different shows this Friday. Here’s a look at the variety of bawdy and buxom burlesque shows to choose from.
Presented by Mon Cherie, who has been hosting the Rockabilly Lounge at the Masquerade in recent years and relives her Chamber days with regular Club Fetish reunions, Va-Va Voom presents its Christmas spectacular with fan dancing and stripteases from the likes of Holly De’Voted, Kitty Katrina and Cha Cha Solei. A rockabilly-themed raffle will include items and gift certificates from Luxdeville.com and Sacred Heart Tattoo, and vendors such as Jezebel Blue and Loysville will offer up jewelry, handbags and other wares. DJ Silk Wolf will spin alternative dance and electroclash to round out the festivities.
9 p.m. Dec. 3. The Shelter, 2101 Tula St. N.W. 678-694-7435. www.moncheriepresents.com. www.theshelteratl.com. $5.
Masters of Vaudeville
Before next month’s Holidazed & Confused extravaganza at 7 Stages Theatre, Atlanta’s Blast-Off Burlesque teams up with Asheville’s Armitage Shanks of Circus Contraption and Madame Onca O’Leary of the Mezmer Society for a three-date tour kicking off at Eyedrum this Friday. Blast-Off’s sexy and comedic take on burlesque will be complemented by Shanks’ ringmaster-like persona and the singing and dancing skills of O’Leary for a night of vaudeville revivalism.
10 p.m. Dec. 3. Eyedrum, 290 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. S.E., Atlanta. 404-522-0655. www.blastoffburlesque.com. www.eyedrum.org. $15.
Hot and Sticky
The holiday edition of this monthly dance party features a cabaret performance by the diversely delightful dames of Minette Magnifique such as Vyolet Venom, Baby Blitzkrieg and Mimi de Milo. As if that wasn’t enough tawdry talent, event host (and former Lust List cover girl) Sarah Mincher and the other girls from the Sorry, Darlin blog will be on hand, and DJ PattyCakes and Cristo Disco will spin indie electro and glam dance throughout the night. There will be Smirnoff drink specials at the bar, vegan treats from Dough Bakery and gourmet hot dogs from ZootyHoo’s Sausage Party.
10 p.m. Dec. 9. Eastside Lounge, 485 Flat Shoals Road, Atlanta. 404-521-9666. www.iheartminette.com. www.eastsidelounge.net. $3, free for women before midnight and all night for those in holiday costume.
Kingsized Holiday Jubilee
Led by the crooning, larger-than-life Big Mike Geier, this annual Vegas-like show features performances of holiday hits by the Kingsized Orchestra with the Dames Aflame dancers providing their own special holiday cheer. Having collected more than three carloads of toys (and $2,700) for Toys for Tots last year, this year’s Holiday Jubilee gives those bearing unopened toys (or cash donations) an opportunity to have their picture taken with Really Big Santa (a somewhat creepy version of St. Nick portrayed by Jim Stacy). Though it has a sexy cult appeal, this holiday celebration is also classy enough to take your parents to.
8:30 p.m. Dec. 11. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave., Atlanta. 404-524-7354. www.kingsizedholidayjubilee.com. www.variety-playhouse.com. $25-$29.65.
Tits for Toys for Tots Holiday Spectacular
Though this annual event helps a good cause, the Syrens of the South clearly know what their fans truly come to see given the appropriately inappropriate event name. The night will be chock full of bosomy fun with performances by such well-rounded performers as Katherine Lashe, Dixie D’lilah D’lite and Ruby Redmayne. Alongside the stripteases will be bellydancers, illusionists, puppeteers and a gender-bending drag king performance by Devin Liquor.
9 p.m. Dec. 17. Eyedrum, 290 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. S.E., Atlanta. 404-522-0655. www.syrensofthesouth.weebly.com. www.eyedrum.org. $15 in advance, $20 at the door, $10 at the door with a new unwrapped toy.
