Civic leaders and elected officials today said the planned College Football Hall of Fame would be located diagonal from Centennial Olympic Park just off Marietta Street.

If everything goes according to plan, the 2.7-acre parcel of land — currently a state-owned parking lot for the adjacent Georgia World Congress Center — will become a glimmering shrine to the scholar athletes who are relentlessly analyzed by fans, many of whom never learned to throw a football. According to reports, the interior will feature a wheel-and-spoke design similar to the Georgia Aquarium. (It looks eerily like Bernie Marcus' fish tank, as well.)

Construction of the hall — which must still be approved by the General Assembly, Gov.-elect Nathan Deal and the Georgia Properties Commission — is expected to begin next summer. More renderings of the museum's proposed interior, which include the requisite phantom people who are imprisoned in architectural sketches, are after the jump.
