That's all the households in the state and then some. Eco-advocacy groups including the National Wildlife Federation, Environment Georgia and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy on Wednesday said winds along the Atlantic Coast could provide enough clean energy to create thousands of jobs, power millions of homes, and generate hundreds of billions of dollars in economic development. While other states have turbine plans in the pipeline, Georgia — or Southern Co. to be exact — is still in the process of surveying several potential turbine locations off its coast. Download the groups' findings, which include state-by-state charts listing projects and potential, here.

This does not involve coal, oil or roads. There is no way this ever gets off the ground here in Georgia.

Wind power will never be useful this way. Giant wind farms feeding the grid is not what wind power is good for. It is a decentralized power source. It is a local source. One or two windmills powering a house or a farm. That's how it's useful and efficient. They are going about it all wrong.

Sometimes I think we are living in some kind of Dr. Seuss world...

a wind farm generating 209 MegaWatts and increasing soon to 425 MegaWatts? sounds like more than a house or a farm.

The problem with wind energy is it cannot be relied on to provide a balanced load to the transmission grid. Large amounts of power coming on and off can throw the whole thing into chaos and cause mass blackouts like they had in the Northeast/Canada about 8 years ago. That was caused by one large plant dropping off unexpectedly.

Smitty & Oydave
Issues such as intermittency/variability, dispatchability, and energy transmission aren't as big of issues any more due to load shedding, flywheel energy storage, pumped-storage hydroelectricity and hvdc.

Storage and transmission aren't the only issues. I predict that wind farms will lose their luster and small scale wind generation will grow in popularity. Use it where you make it. Besides, you should respect Ted Kennedy's wishes.

I love Tesla. One of the great bands of their times! I just don't see what another off-topic post by ppdave belongs in this section talking about a rock band? This is about electricity you dolt!

Solar power is more reliable. Tax incentives or small grants to make our homes more solar energy efficient as a nation (especially in larger cities where more energy is used) is a more aggressive, practical plan.
