Tron Legacy debuts Atlantic Station new IMAX theater

If you're frantically looking for available tickets to see Tron Legacy in IMAX at midnight, you don't have to go to the burbs. Regal Atlantic Station 16 is debuting their spanking new digital IMAX theater tonight with Tron Legacy: The IMAX 3D Experience.

Crews have been working around the clock to convert one of the larger auditoriums, theater 9 to accommodate the new IMAX digital setup that includes some seating adjustments (over 400 seats), a larger screen and speakers. Atlantic Station is the fifth IMAX screen in metro Atlanta and the third digital screen of its kind in the city.

Without getting too technical, digital IMAX is slightly different that is predecessor, the 70mm film versions. The original IMAX theaters have larger screens (up to 104') and projected at a higher pixel rate, digital has smaller screens (up to 46') and use digital projectors that show at a much lower discernible pixel rate. The average film goer would hardly notice the difference in quality but may balk at the smaller screen.

Tickets for Tron Legacy: The IMAX 3D Experience are currently on sale for $17.50.
