Morning Newsdome: Leaked documents show Palestinian Authority agreed to controversial Jerusalem annexing

Mahmoud Abbas
>> Arab newspaper Al Jazeera has published stories citing over 1,600 Israeli-Palestinian documents that show that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas agreed in 2008 to allow Israel to annex the now controversial northern Jerusalem settlement for nothing in return, despite being publicly against it now. The documents also state that Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat was willing to cede control over Temple Mount to an international committee during East Jerusalem discussions—using the Hebrew word! That's more embarrassing than Katy Perry's no makeup picture. (the Guardian)

>> Hezbollah candidate Najib Miqati, a Sunni billionaire, won support to form a government in Lebanon, a major power shift for an organization that usually prefers to operate "in the background." President Obama has said that it would be "difficult" to support a Hezbollah-led country. Yeah, it'll also be difficult to live in one too. (the New York Times)

>> The Illinois Appellate Court kills dreams. Rahm Emanuel was kicked off the Chicago mayor ballot in a 2-1 ruling because he wasn't a resident of the city for the year prior to the election. Seems he was too busy in D.C. as President Obama's chief of staff. No one puts Rahmie in a corner. (the Chicago Sun Times)

>> Sadly, the U.S. military has lost more troops to suicide than to combat in Iraq and Afghanistan for the second year in a row. More Lady Gaga parodies are good for mental health. (Political Wire)

>> And finally: During last year's State of the Union speech, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito came under criticism for mouthing the words "Not true" when President Obama condemned the Supreme Court for allowing corporate spending in political campaigns. So this year, Alito, along with Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, will be skipping the speech, and Alito will be in Hawaii. Is that far enough for you? (the Washington Post)
