Renee Glover leaving AHA for APS ... or not

Atlanta Progressive News reported yesterday that — "according to sources" — Atlanta Housing Authority Executive Director Renee Glover has, with the encouragement of several school board members, been positioning herself to become Atlanta Public Schools' next superintendent.

It doesn't appear that Glover was among the "sources" to which APN referred.

Rick White of Alisias, the PR Firm that represents AHA, sent out an email disputing Glover's rumored ambitions:

A rumor is circulating that Renee Lewis Glover, CEO of the Atlanta Housing Authority, is "angling" to become the new superintendent of the Atlanta Public School system. The rumor is not true. The tale was manufactured and distributed on a local web site.

The person most knowledgeable about Glover's plans is Renee Lewis Glover herself.

"I have absolutely no reason or intention to leave the important work of community building we have undertaken at the Atlanta Housing Authority (AHA)," Glover says. "There is no truth to the assertion that I am or would be interested in leaving AHA or about me becoming school superintendent."

"However," Glover concluded, "supporting education reform in no way means I am interested in becoming a school superintendent. I am not."

The email also plugged Glover's blog "Lessons Learned," which she updates only once every several months. The most recent entry was a defense of AHA's demolition of the projects.
