Tonight, the Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott will open their latest group show, a exploration of desires and personal relationships entitled My Sweet, Sweet.... The artists, including Larry Jens Anderson, Caroline Bullock, Jennifer Hartley, Ayodele Heath, Ashley Hope, s. andre keichian, Kate Kretz, Jillian Mcdonald, Forest McMullin, Jason Murphy, Karen Ann Myers, Karen Tauches, Constance Thalken, Joe Elias Tsambiras and Angela West, were asked to consider that titular phrase and explore the implicit meanings:

"My sweet, sweet..." might be an impassioned whisper, penned to a dear one, cooed when kissing a baby or caressing a beloved pet, even uttered to a victim. It could be spoken from sentimental musings or saccharine sarcasm. Such words of desire may be reserved for fetishistic objects or passions, capitalistic ventures and ill—gotten gains.

Dalton Gallery director Lisa Alembik writes that the results are just as varied as the assembled artists, addressing everything "from BDSM to hero worship, from untarnished recollections of the purity of familial love to our cultural obsession—our need—for ‘light sweet crude.’"

The opening gets started tonight, Thurs., Feb. 3, at 6 pm and runs until 9 pm. Please note, the gallery website is carrying the warning: "EXHIBITION RECOMMENDED FOR MATURE AUDIENCES."

You can check out a quick preview of the work after the jump.
