Miss Mayor Kasim Reed on ‘Meet the Press?’ Here’s the video.

Mayor plugs pension program cuts, Savannah Port - and Obama’s 2012 chances

Mayor Kasim Reed on Sunday made his first appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the long-running program hosted by noted dancer David Gregory that features elected officials and pundits jawboning about policy and political horse races.

The mayor discusses cities’ needs to “make tough financial decisions,” such as he’s doing with Atlanta’s pension programs. President Obama, he says, has already told him and other mayors to expect fewer resources from Washington, D.C., in the year ahead. Reed also discussed why the costly Savannah Port expansion project — which he’s helped Georgia Republicans pitch to the feds — is worth pursuing during a time of austerity.

Joining the mayor on the panel were New York Times Columnist David Brooks, former Clinton Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers, Rep. Bobby Schilling, R-Ill. and TIME Magazine Editor-at-large Mark Halperin. The mayor joins the discussion around the 3:35 mark.

After the jump, another segment that features the panel talking about the 2012 presidential election.
