Rep. Franklin stands by his stupid

The East Cobb legislator won’t apologize for anti-LGBT statement

Last week, Rep. Bobby Franklin (R — East Cobb) was quoted in the [http://www.mdjonline.com/view/full_story/11295596/article-East-Cobb-RepFranklin-s-take-on-gaysgold--goats-and-God?instance=home_news_left|Marietta Daily Journal] saying something only marginally comprehensible about his opposition to the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal.

From what we could gather, Franklin was comparing gays to “unrepentant drug addicts.”

Here’s that excerpt again:
“The Bible says it’s a capital offense,” Franklin said of homosexuality. “You want someone with unrepentant criminal behavior? And it’s not just that, neither should adulterers, neither should thieves, neither should a lot of things. The church is full of sinners, but we’re told in 1st Corinthians it rattled off the homosexual, the adulterer, the thief, the liar, and such were some of you, but you’ve been washed, you’ve been justified and so forth. It’s not what you were. You’re not punishing a thought. But do you want an unrepentant drug dealer in the military? Same thing.”

Predictably, Franklin is using the Bible to justify his statements, and successfully sounding dumber than ever.

Following article’s publication, local LGBT advocacy group Queer Justice League issued a letter to Franklin asking that he formally apologize and participate in sensitivity training.

Here’s what he told the MDJ when they asked Franklin if he planned to respond:
“I have not seen any such remarks from The Queer Justice League and will not waste my time reading them. I will not apologize for making references to what the Bible teaches. If anyone has a problem with what the Bible teaches then their problem is with God and not with me.”

Talk about “unrepentant.”
