Sunday sales bill could see House vote next week

Georgia will soon choose between burning in hell and Sunday sales.
Imbibers, freedom lovers and grocery store owners rejoice.

A House committee yesterday voted 15-1 to send the most glorious piece of legislation ever penned merrily on its way for a full vote.

Discussion about the measure, which would allow voters to decide whether they wanted to allow stores to sell alcohol on Sundays, reportedly lasted only five minutes.

Though nothing's ever certain under the Gold Dome — especially in the lower chamber — the measure is expected to find strong support. Gov. Nathan Deal, unlike his predecessor Sonny Perdue, has said in the past that he wouldn't veto such a bill.

It'll be interesting to watch whether the House's quick attention to the legislation factors into any powerplays between the two chambers during the closing days of the session. If so, that'd be a shame. Reps are just conducting the people's bidness.
