For 33 years, the nonprofit VSA arts of Georgia has focused on making art accessible to Georgians who are disabled and/or living with low incomes. "We facilitate the donation of more than $2 million dollars worth of ticket stock from 130 venue partners to the constituents of more than 400 agency partners serving more than 100,000 people per year,” says Executive Director Elizabeth Labbe-Webb.
VSA Arts of Georgia offers performances and workshops often taught by professional artists with disabilities to children who also have disabilities. Committed to creating an accepting and positive arts community throughout Atlanta, VSA also works to help other area art agencies attract patrons with disabilities by introducing the agencies to American Sign Language interpreters and blind support services, for instance.
Like most arts organizations during the recent recession, VSA funding has taken a hit, although “our programs have actually grown because more of the population now falls into the groups that we serve,’” says Labbe-Webb.
