The organization Dance Truck is the dreamchild of founder Malina Rodriguez who wanted more venues in Atlanta for presenting dance and thought up the idea of an inexpensive, accessible, mobile venue: the back of a truck. Since its founding a couple years ago, Dance Truck has become a huge hit, a moveable feast of local dancers and choreographers presenting their work at various arts events, festivals and venues around town, using the back of a truck as a performance platform.
On Thursday evening, the dancers will leave the truck at home and perform on the plaza on Peachtree Street in front of midtown Atlanta's new Museum of Design. On the program for this round are Rodriguez-curated pieces by local companies and performers including Cattelier Dance Projects at 6:30 pm, Gathering Wild at 7 pm, and performance artist Allison Rentz at 7:30 pm. Car enthusiast organization Motorgogo and eats from the Good Food Trike will also be on hand.
The performances are part of MODA's Drink in Design event. The dance on the plaza is free, while admission to the museum is $10 (students and children $5, complimentary for members) and comes with a free beer or glass of wine.
The artists of Dance Truck will give free performances on the plaza outside the Museum of Design on Thursday, April 7, starting at 6:30 pm. Admission to the museum itself is $10 and includes wine or beer. For more information, visit MODA or call 404.979.6455
