Last week, the GA Voice reported — and we subsequently reported in Neighborhood News — that the operators of a local cemetery were toying with the notion of designating a section where gay families could be buried.
Now it looks like spokesman John Suggs (NOT former CL editor John Sugg) — who went so far as to say an architect was already working on plans for the section — might have been speaking out of turn. Or just making shit up.
From the follow-up story:
A spokesperson for Service Corporation International based in Houston, which owns Crest Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Atlanta, said today there were never plans to partition off a section of the cemetery for gay people and families.
“The information was pretty much incorrect,” said Jessica McDunn, corporate spokesperson for SEI. “We are not planning a segregated section.”
When they contacted Suggs for comment, he told them he couldn't speak to the media anymore. Perhaps for good reason.
