Congressman John Lewis to run for another term in 2012

Posted By on Tue, Apr 26, 2011 at 5:39 PM

The 71-year-old civil rights icon and longtime Atlanta Democrat — he's represented the city in Congress since 1986 — made the announcement today at an Atlanta Press Club event in downtown.

Reports the Associated Press:

"The people in this district have been very, very good to me, and I have tried to be good to the people," said Lewis, the longest-serving member of the state's congressional delegation. "I'm not prepared to give up or give in. I am prepared to work."

Which means all you political up-and-comers — and we know there one or two of ya — will have to hold your horses.
