>> President Obama finally caved and released his long-form birth certificate. From the White House: "[The birther controversy] may have been good politics and good TV, but it was ... distracting from the many challenges we face as a country." From the self-satisfied Trump: "Today I'm very proud of myself because I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish." And by proud, he means we're all ashamed. (the White House, Fox News)

>> A veteran Afghan pilot killed eight NATO soldiers (six of whom were American) and one contractor after an argument earlier today. The Taliban claimed responsibility, but officials don't believe they were involved. Jeez, always trying to take credit for everything. (CNN)

>> With the war in Afghanistan going into its tenth year, President Obama will nominate CIA director Leon Panetta to replace Defense Secretary Robert Gates later this week, and General David Petraeus will take Panetta's spot. And then will 100,000 troops be withdrawn from Afghanistan? (the Washington Post)

>> The leaked Guantanamo Bay files from Sunday revealed that a "small circle" of Al Qaeda operatives conceived of plots to follow September 11 including "cutting the cables holding up the Brooklyn Bridge." New York better racially profile all people shopping at Home Depot for bolt cutters. (the New York Times)

>> And finally: The Interior Department revealed that the Colorado, Rio Grande and San Joaquin river basins that provide water to eight states will decline by as much as 14 percent over the next four decades. So glad Georgia doesn't have any water problems. (the Huffington Post)
