Conservancy Updates Status of 2011 Screen on the Green

ATLANTA (May 8, 2011) With Turner’s announcement in January of a management change at Peachtree TV, Piedmont Park Conservancy was informed that it no longer had a partner to produce Screen on the Green. Since that time, the Conservancy has attempted to secure sponsors, but announced today that they have run out of time. Piedmont Park Conservancy, which holds the permit for the popular annual summer film festival, is committed to finding the necessary funding to host Screen on the Green in 2012.

“It is our desire to continue the tradition of kicking off every summer with great movies in this great park,” said Yvette Bowen, President and CEO of Piedmont Park Conservancy. “As one of our many free community-building initiatives, we have treasured our first ten years of movies on Piedmont Park’s Meadow. This year’s event, however, the timing of Turner’s announcement left us with too little time to secure sufficient sponsors to support it and, as such, must be cancelled,” she added.

Screen on the Green began in Piedmont Park in 2000. Thousands of Atlantans have attended the family-friendly series over the years. Classic movies like Mommie Dearest, Star Wars, Casablanca and The Wizard of OZ have helped make Screen on the Green Atlanta’s premier outdoor movie festival.

Note that the Atlantic Station Movies in the Park series will continue as planned...
