Roads Shocker: Metro Atlanta near top of gas-guzzlers list

Forbes tasked a think tank — we suppose the magazine's crack team of census-obsessed drones are undergoing maintenance — to find out what parts of the country drive the most miles and guzzle the most petrol. And metro Atlanta, the sprawlish monstrosity where opposition to mass transit can still be found despite hour-long commuters in some places, ranks third. According to the report, the average metro Atlantan's car gobbles up more than 1,000 gallons of gas to travel 21,300 miles every year. Top honors went to two cities in North Carolina — our competitor for all the riches in the world.
