Ormewood QT project halted ... for now

Despite the gas station chain's wonderful assortment of fountain beverages, many Ormewood Park residents really don't want a QuickTrip in their backyard (they even made a Facebook page about it).

The city initially approved the replatting of several lots along Moreland Avenue — including 731, where a rundown Jiffy Grocery Store currently stands — to make way for a 5,700 square foot QT. But last week, the city's planning office rescinded its approval because splitting one of the commercial lots would have violated frontage regulations.

Apparently, developers tried to pull a fast one by subdividing a thin strip of property alongside nearby houses to get around the city's 100-foot setback requirement.

The property owner, Gobind L. Madan, has 30 days to appeal the decision.
