This weekend, Octane Coffee will show the latest exhibition curated by the Southern Design Concern, a group that works to promote designers working in the American South. Made: an Exhibition of Contemporary Handmade Design coincides with a wealth of upcoming design related shows: Modern by Design at the High and the week-long schedule of events for Modern Atlanta.

Travis Ekmark, one of group's founders, explains that, "The concept for this show emerged as a result of watching 'handmade' and 'craft' evolve from 'a way of making things' into a full-fledged trend with its own assumed aesthetic. We put this show together because we respect crafty, well-made things, but wished to suggest an expanded definition of what those things could look and be like. With graphic design being a primarily computer-based practice in 2011, it seemed to be an interesting angle to cull handmade work from designers and artists who spend most of their waking hours in the digital realm. In fact, this show aims to pay tribute to artisanship by upsetting its assumptions and de facto aesthetic."

Alvin Diec & Staci Janik, Caleb Andrews, Danielle Harris, Elise Mattingly, James Martin, Jason Travis, Julia Farill, Justin Van Hoy, Kevin Byrd, Mariel Childes & Farbod Kokabi, Mark Weaver, Matt Holloway, Solomon Chase, Stephanie Toole, Stewart Vann & Kathleen Oscadal, and Travis Ekmark & Stefán Kjartansson will all be showing their work in Made. More details and images of work from the show after the jump.
