On June 15 Artadia, a New York-based arts nonprofit, will launch its 2011 awards cycle in Atlanta. All visual artists living and working in the 23-county greater Atlanta area* are eligible to apply. At stake are two awards of $15,000 and five awards of $3,000. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 15. And the pool of potential applicants should be varied, since "Individual artists and collaboratives working in all media and at any point in their career are strongly encouraged to apply," according to the press release.

The last award cycle for Atlanta took place in 2009 and attracted 292 artists. The jurors included Jeffrey Grove (Wieland Family Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Ga.), Clara Kim (gallery director and curator, REDCAT, Los Angeles, Calif.) and Hamza Walker (associate curator and director of education, the Renaissance Society, Chicago, Ill.)

From Artadia:

“It’s a privilege to work closely with Atlanta arts patrons and partner organizations to ensure broad support for visual artists locally, as well as to further broadcast the important work happening in the metro area to a national audience. Building on the success of our first cycle in 2009, we are opening applications to Atlanta artists this summer and hope to break records in artist applications and diverse support streams for Atlanta artists. Every time I am in Atlanta I am so energized by the passion and strength of work evident there,” commented Lila Kanner, Artadia’s executive director.

Artadia will host three info sessions for interested artists, one July 16 at the Contemporary, and two webinars Aug. 23 and Sept. 1. The first round of 15 finalists will be announced in October.

*The 23 eligible counties include Barrow, Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Morgan, Newton, Paulding, Pickens, Rockdale, Spalding, and Walton.
