Shark Week is here again, and I'm taking the bait.
Why does this non-event garner SO much press for Discovery Channel?
Does it really bring in monster ratings for the cable network, or does it perform only because it is literally the only original block of programming on television this week? (Is this a fish in a barrel thing? A big fish in a small pond? )
I couldn't resist the urge to bite. Now I'm on the hook and post a shark blog.
Are there any more sharky puns I can throw out with the chum, or have these attempts at humor jumped the shark?
My own personal week of Shark Week alternatives:
Day 1: JAWS
Everything you ever needed to know about sharks. If it weren't for Jaws, there would be no Shark Week.
Kickball - With teams team names like High Rollers, Kick Rocks, and a few referencing certain male body parts, you wouldn't think that this kickball game was something to be taken seriously, but don't tell that to the competitors who put it all out on the line for a chance to make it to the Kickball National Championship.
In the tournament on Saturday at the Georgia Tech rec fileds, team "Flying V" beat out "MTF" to make it to the next round.

CL's Chante Lagon and Gwynedd Stuart discuss how the new HB 87 anti-illegal immigration law will affect Georgia's private prison system.

Whether it was the free drinks or the great atmosphere, the vibes were uber positive at Art Beats + Lyrics this Friday. ABL is an annual showcase of urban art sponsored by Jack Daniel's. This year the event was held at Compound and spanned throughout the massive indoor/outdoor club. Featured artists included Dubelyoo, DTM, Aniekan Udofia, and many more.
Late in the night, rappers 8Ball and MJG graced the stage with a live band.

Federal lawmakers this week quit making sense. Zoo Atlanta's residents took a break from giving birth to beautiful little creatures. And an Alabama man with the coolest name on Earth came out looking better than everyone else. Take a moment and reflect with us on the past week's most popular posts on Fresh Loaf, which will spend Saturday sitting in a gas station playing those video slot machines. Come say hi.
1. Georgia lost one of its quirkiest and most controversial lawmakers.
2. These downtown and Midtown boosters have it all wrong. The downtown connector doesn't need hanging ivy, artistic lighting installations or even contemporary art on retaining walls and overpasses to impress out-of-town motorists. The road needs animatronic puppets — with glowing red eyes.
3. Atlanta Public Schools board members probably have whiplash by now. They had a bad day. Then they had a good day.. And then they learned they werein the red.
4. It's high time someone stepped up and said, "This is America, and Atlantans should have the right to buy and sell handbags and snow globes on each and every street corner." The Founding Fathers said so.
5. Should you ever consider stealing a scooter, please first put on a shirt. Please. We know it's hot and everything, but you know there's gonna be a surveillance camera and the cops are going to release the footage. Plus, we have to watch it.
So, today is National Dance Day, something apparently created last year by "So You Think You Can Dance" judge and television producer par excellence Nigel Lythgoe.
To celebrate, Atlantic Station is hosting dance activities in Central Park all day from 2-9PM.
Will there be a "surprise" Flash Mob at 2:30 PM?!?
You tell me:
