Shark Week is here again, and I'm taking the bait.
Why does this non-event garner SO much press for Discovery Channel?
Does it really bring in monster ratings for the cable network, or does it perform only because it is literally the only original block of programming on television this week? (Is this a fish in a barrel thing? A big fish in a small pond? )
I couldn't resist the urge to bite. Now I'm on the hook and post a shark blog.
Are there any more sharky puns I can throw out with the chum, or have these attempts at humor jumped the shark?
My own personal week of Shark Week alternatives:
Day 1: JAWS
Everything you ever needed to know about sharks. If it weren't for Jaws, there would be no Shark Week.
DAY 3: FINDING NEMO
Sharks in rehab! (Trivia: Bruce, the name of the Great White, was the nickname given to the mechanical shark on the set of Jaws.)
DAY 4: WEST SIDE STORY
Jets vs. Sharks!
DAY 5: SWIMMING WITH SHARKS
Before he played a prototypical douche bag boss in Horrible Bosses, Kevin Spacey invented the prototypical douche bag boss. There's no equal.
DAY 6: DEEP BLUE
The second best greatest shark scene. Ever! Samuel L. Jackson trying to get the folks to "rise up"...
DAY 7: BATMAN: THE MOVE
The greatest shark scene. Ever! Shark repellant? Yes, please!
