The contest to design Georgia's new license plate became an unlikely source of controversy when "In God We Trust" appeared on some of the plates and not others, presumably giving those submissions a leg up in among religious types, i.e. most Georgians. But, apparently, God's endorsement was indelible. Another vote took place and, alas, the same design that won the first time won again.
Here's a pic the winning submission that was tweeted by someone in Gov. Deal's office ...

If you'll recall, ALL of the designs were pret-ty lame, but this one definitely has the most going on (and not in a good way). Back in July, several Fresh Loaf readers endorsed this design, basically, because it's the least legible and, therefore, most likely to confuse cops and traffic cams. Scamps.

Gwynedd - I'm just as anti-religion as you are. But contrary to your assertion, not everyone in Georgia is a bible beating ignoramus. You disprove your own assertion - if the same design won with and without the god crap, doesn't it prove that the god crap didn't matter? I know it's fun to poke fun at those with whom you disagree (and therefore assume to be stupid), but you can at least do so with an argument that doesn't disprove itself.
They probably should have done a runoff between the top 2. I'm thinking because many of the others were similar they probably split the vote - vs. this one that stands apart from the rest.
I'm not going to blame religious folk for this, I'll blame Republicans. Well guess I've gained a little more perspective into the mind of the stereotypical Georgia Voter.
Deal picked the winner from the 3 finalists. This just shows his lack of design taste. At least he didn't pick the ass.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Talk about flawed assertions. So, I'm "anti-religion" and, essentially, calling people "Bible beating ignorami" because I acknowledged that most people in Georgia are, in fact, religious? Gallup says 51 percent of Georgians attend church, and I'd venture to guess plenty more don't attend church, but likely identify as adherents to one religion or another.
Also, they literally had a revote because some of the plates said "In God We Trust" and some didn't, and they were worried that the "IGWT" plates had an unfair advantage. That's not me calling anyone stupid. If anything it's the state of Georgia calling people stupid. Cool your jets, dude.
Great, we've joined every hick midwestern state in the "land o' plenty" license plate club. Still, could be worse- http://www.15q.net/us2/ky04.jpg
I have to say that I would have rather had the solid blue plate Sonny killed a few years back. On multiple times in the past, the Georgia tag was a blue plate with white letters. Heck, Georgia isn't even technically the Peach State anymore.....
It should be interesting to see how (or if) the specialty plates are changed as a result.
Leigh Anne problem with that idea is that Georgia just raised the taxes on those plates so instead of a one time charge of $20 you have to pay a one time fee of $25 PLUS $35 annually - and $25 of the annual $35 goes to the general budget not the cause.

I turned my Trout Unlimited plates in to avoid the new tax.
Thankfully it looks like I don't have to get the new tags if I keep my car and current plates.
I know the look like pumpkins, but they're supposed to be peaches. Terrible design. What's that little scribble in the tree branches. God really let us down on this one.
Hey! wheres the Georgia Pines or cherokee roses?
All in all the plates no that bad...it could have a rebel flag with the caption: "we ain't fr'gittin" with Deal in office!!
Why isnt there an Atlanta Braves plate? We have a cat plate, a UGA plate, a dog plate, Falcons Plate and even an UF plate. How about a Braves plate.?
i think they chose this hideous design so people will be motivated to buy a special plate so they don't have to display that design disaster on their car.
Makes me want to get a specialty plate even more now GO GATORS!
As a resident of Georgia, I have to say that from a design standpoint this is just another example of poor choices from uneducated people. Take a look at the previous design of the state flag before it's current incarnation. I believe it was voted ugliest flag a couple years in a row. This design in not only insipid but uninspiring as well. Kudos for allowing a georgia native to design it, but there are plenty of talented artists out there who would've done a bang up job.
As far as the God issue, it's true that "God" is everywhere. It's on currency, buildings, laws...etc. That doesn't mean that we as a free country that allows freedom of religon should force anything of that nature on someone who doesn't believe it. Would there be an option for "In Allah we Trust" or "In the Dude We Trust"?
Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion but seperation of church and state refers to more than just taxes.
UGGGH!!! I really do not understand why pretty much all of the potential choices went so overboard with the peaches. Yeah its the state symbol - we get it already. So include the peach symbol and design something that doesn't make it seem as if the state is little more than a giant peach orchard. Oh and the state of SC produces more peaches than GA anyway.
That's the beauty of CL's in house design plate 2. "Did you know Georgia is called 'The Peach State?'"
It is as if they think we are idiots...Wait we voted them in so maybe they are right.
Sounds like there may be a reprieve for those of us who don't want to display this hideous plate on our cars. From the official press release, "Georgia taxpayers will ... also have the option of selecting a plain tag."
https://etax.dor.ga.gov/pressrel/New%20Geo…
THAT's a relief!
That's good, though it would be even nicer if the Plain Tag was really Plain and didn't have ANY Peaches on it.
I'm starting to develop a contempt for Peaches.
