Call for Artists: Dance Canvas seeks choreographers

A dancer warms up for last years Dance Canvas showcase.
Dance Canvas is an organization that seeks to bridge an employment gap in the dance world: Beginning choreographers often find they can't get hired without a solid resume of past work, and they can't get a solid resume of past work without gaining some professional experience. Enter Dance Canvas to bust up that evil Catch-22.

The organization provides ten aspiring choreographers with the opportunity to showcase their choreography to Atlanta audiences in three performances. Choreographers receive theater rehearsal time, technical assistance, studio rehearsal space, costuming assistance, full marketing and promotional exposure, access to professional dancers, and more.

All styles of choreography are considered and accepted for the program: ballet, hip-hop, tap, jazz, contemporary, swing and more. And for non-dancers and choreographers: seeing the energetic annual showcase of aspiring, young choreographers' work is a total blast. It's slated for January 2012 at the 14th Street Playhouse this year.

The deadline for application is September 23 by 5 pm. For more information on the program or to print out the application visit Dance Canvas.
