Newsdome: Muammar and Condoleezza sitting in a tree

Posted by Bobby Feingold on Thu, Aug 25, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Muammar Qaddafi
>> Libyan rebel forces have taken most of Tripoli and are pushing toward Muammar Qaddafi's hometown of Sirte today. The UN is expected to vote to release $1.5 billion in previously frozen assets to aid the rebels, though the African Union has not recognized the rebel leadership yet. I wonder if Condoleezza Rice, Qaddafi's "darling black African woman," could have talked some sense into him. (BBC, MSNBC)

>> Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple yesterday due to health reasons. Jobs is credited with turning the once failing company into "the most valued US corporation." COO Tim Cook will replace Jobs, making him into what Gawker calls "an icon for gay advancement." Grindr will now come standard on all iPhones. (USA Today, Gawker)

>> Google settled with the U.S. Justice Department today for $500 million, "one of the largest forfeitures ever paid in the U.S.," over online ads for an illegal Canadian pharmacy. Google says they "shouldn't have allowed these ads on Google in the first place." The U.S. says corporate settlements will save us from our crumbling economy. (the Washington Post)

>> Warren Buffet's investment company Berkshire Hathaway is giving Bank of America $5 billion to aid in the current economic crisis, with shares already up 22 percent. The company gave billions to Goldman Sachs during the previous recession too. Warren, over here, what about me? (the Wall Street Journal)

>> And finally: The ten year anniversary of 9/11 is coming up next month, so what happened to the $1.5 billion that Americans donated to victims? Much of the donations went to families, but many charities can't point to where the money ended up. A group that raised $700,00 for a memorial quilt never made one, with a third of the money going to the charity's founder. Now that's the American spirit. (AP)

Apple has become The Great Satan. They cut the legs from under every film and video editor in the world by replacing FinalCut Pro, the greatest editing software ever, with a glorified iMovie. They spent a decade taking over the editing market and once nearly everyone was using their software, they yanked it.

Don't ever build a business around Apple professional software. You will be sorry.

iTunes can suck it. iPhone, too. I'm done with those guys. Pity. Elegant design and great hardware can't trump contempt for the customer and arrogance fueled by mountains of cash.

I still respect what Jobs did. You have to love that the world was changed by a couple of stoners in a garage.

Dude the photo album is super creepy! Condoleza Rice would be beating that ass is what she would be doing. That lady is a hero!

The endless rerun of billionaire Warren Buffett beating his breast and insisting he's dramatically undertaxed. I'm bored just writing that. I am sick of Buffett.

Buffett can pontificate ad infinitum on his wealthy should pay more in taxes, perhaps because he knows Left Leaners will not point out the obvious: Buffett doesn't live by his own credo. He could, but won't, write out his own check to the government. In fact, he does just the opposite, pouring more and more into the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, thus protecting his money from federal taxation. In July, he parked another $1.5 billion there, bringing his total to $9.5 billion.

Buffett and Gates have both argued for a stiffer estate tax, which his foundation craftily avoids. To real journalists, this would be a story, but not to left leaners.

in his endless quest to assign blame to people who disagree with him, pistolpete gets mad at a rich guy for donating to charity, exploiting tax loopholes, and then accuses leftists of coddling the rich.

which is more important to pete - ideological integrity or bashing leftists?

also pete - where did you copy past everything about buffet from? again it uses big words and is typo free so i know for sure you didn't write it

And you see that dumb ass "you can write a check now" refrain on Fox news all the time, Saw Hannity say it to Jerry Springer (supposedly the voice of the left????) the other day. For goodness sake we are talking about a change in the tax code, a couple millionaires donating cash to the government isn't going to improve the economy. On the other hand meeting deficit reduction goals by getting all millionaires to go back to their previous tax rate will.

We can generate 700 billion in revenue by doing this and closing some corporate loopholes or we can take half of everything the lower half of the American population owns. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-augu…
Though yea true poor people can easily afford it I mean 99% of them have a refrigerator and 25% of them have a dishwasher!

"moocher class, makers and the takers, parasites, racoons, generations of utterly irresponsible animals" Whooo you folks are seriously odd.

"On the other hand meeting deficit reduction goals by getting all millionaires to go back to their previous tax rate will" (fix the economy.)

No it won't. It won't even meet deficit reduction goals.

A good economy WILL fix our deficit problem, along with SMALLER spending increases. I say smaller spending increases because that's Washington means when they say "cutting spending."

Maybe if we sacrifice a chicken on a Wheel Of Fortune.

I agree a good economy is the best way to fix our deficit problem and ultimately "SMALLER" spending increases may be needed. Question is if states like Georgia Continue jacking up taxes and reducing spending will the economy be growing enough to overcome that recessionary pressure? Or do we need some more deficit spending or spending financed by the rich? Based on the past 20 years my belief in supply side economics has declined dramatically.

I am glad to see Buffett using his own dough to bail people out, but I think it will obviously save him cash in the long run as he hides more money available for taxation.
