gloATL brings "Maa" to Symphony Hall

The dance company gloATL is currently preparing for their first evening-length performances at Atlanta's Symphony Hall, September 9-10. The two-year-old company, familiar to many Atlantans through performances in public places such as Lenox Square, Little Five Points, and Castleberry Hill, is now collaborating with ASO Conductor Robert Spano and music group Sonic Generator for two performances of Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho's contemporary ballet "Maa." Evocative and dreamlike, "Maa" — the renowned composer’s only ballet — has been staged just twice before, once in the composer's native Finland in the early 1990s and again last year in New York.

gloATL will "repurpose" Symphony Hall for the production: The stage will be covered with grass, and spectators will surround the dancers in 360-degree seating. Videographer Adam Larsen, who created memorable projections for gloATL's "Roem" outside the Woodruff Arts Center last year, will also create projections for "Maa."

gloATL will perform “Maa” on Friday and Saturday, September 9-10, at 8 pm. Tickets start at $25, but Scoutmob is offering discount tickets at half-off. Purchase your tickets for just $12.50 on-line by entering coupon code GLOSCOUT at checkout.
