Are they trying to make the Footloose remake more relevant?

Charges of censorship bring a new degree of relevance to the Georgia-lensed remake of Footloose.

Among the more interesting trends to follow on Twitter over the course of the past few weeks has been director Craig Brewer’s defense of the studio’s decision to remake Footloose. (Of course, considering that the $25 million budgeted movie was shot in Georgia, you won’t hear anyone complain here.)

Some comments find Brewer retweeting praise from others—usually skeptics who have been won over as part of the studio’s advance word-of-mouth screening campaign:
@AprilKalloo
RT @MyBrewTube Hey, @MyBrewTube must be annoying that ppl are dissing the remake of #footloose -was one of the best musical remakes! Glad you kept it real!”

Brewer also takes hecklers on Tweet to Tweet: “@MyBrewTube
It isn’t and we didn’t RT @kerstanb Footloose remake looks like crap - they copied the the movie over again with different actors - LAME!”

What no one could have anticipated is how some Georgia bigwigs are making the Footloose message relevant.

First, there’s the case of Carrollton Mayor Wayne Garner to shut down a production of The Rocky Horror Show.
