City and Atlanta Beltline officials will unveil Boulevard Crossing Park, the latest in what will be a long line of greenspace projects along the 22-mile loop, on Sunday at 2 p.m. The event marks the completion of the park’s first phase, which includes nearly five acres of multi-use sports fields. Activities include a commemoration by Atlanta City Councilwoman Carla Smith, soccer with the Atlanta Silverbacks, paintball and inflatables for the kids and the requisite food and refreshments.

The park, which has been in the works for several years, is located south of Grant Park at the intersection of Boulevard and Englewood Avenue. The sustainable-as-possible project features solar-powered lamps and naturalized landscaping. Kudzu was removed with the help of, you guessed it, goats. Future plans for the greenspace include filling out its full 22-acre footprint and the addition of a skate park, basketball courts and terraced community gardens. Plus, you know, linking to the Beltline’s trails and (one day) transit.
