One of the Atlanta City Council’s biggest cycling advocates plans to pedal all the way to Alabama at the end of the month.

Councilman Aaron Watson (of the illustrious Post-2 At-Large seat) spent this spring hosting a [http://atlantapost2.com/newsroom/101-aaron-watson-and-atlanta-bicycle-coalition-riding-smarter-this-spring|”Living Smarter” urban health initiative], which included a series of inner-city rides. He’s following up that effort with a bonafide bike tour all the way down the Silver Comet Trail, which stretches to the Alabama state line. And everyone’s invited to join.

Riders will huff and puff their way 112 miles from the Floyd Road trailhead, to the Alabama state line, then back to the Floyd Road trailhead again. An overnight stay in Cedartown, Georgia, is planned for those who will poop out at the end of the first day. Members of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and Metro Atlanta Cycling Club will be leading the pack alongside Watson.

Watson will also be hosting a 20 to 30 mile practice session on Oct. 15, bright and early at 8:15 a.m. The actual ride is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, at 8 a.m. Though everyone’s invited, everyone is also required to register here.
