Dorothy O'Connor's 'Tornado'

Last July, we looked at a few local artists who were utilizing crowd-funding sites like Kickstarter to realize projects. One of those artists was Dorothy O'Connor, a fine art photographer with an ongoing tableau vivant series she calls "Scenes." At the time, she had just reached and surpassed her $3,200 goal.

Saturday night, O'Connor revealed "Tornado" in the backyard of her College Park home — an intricately built scene featuring a whirling cyclone and a young woman turning a crank in the wall. O'Connor spent nearly two months hand-stenciling the wallpaper, hanging floating maple leaves and, of course, crafting the whirling centerpiece of the scene. Donors of O'Connor's Kickstarter campaign were invited to contribute an object to be included in the scene. Dorothy's art invites people to experience the space built for her photographs, allowing one night of performance art to accompany the ever-lasting photos.
