>> Secretary of State Hillary Clinton unexpectedly visited Libya today, the first cabinet-level U.S. official to visit in two months, to pledge millions of dollars in U.S. aid. We have millions of dollars of aid lying around? Meanwhile, the support is mutual. (the Washington Post, NY Mag)

>> President Obama is campaigning in the South this week to test out his populist message for the 2012 election and see if North Carolina and Virginia will swing for him as they did in 2008. But how is he supposed to know what his populist, hopeful message is without his teleprompter? (Reuters, MSNBC)

>> After NYPD officers attempted to remove the Occupy Wall Street medical tent in Zuccotti Park, Jesse Jackson magically appeared and locked arms with the other protesters, eventually shooing the police away. Jackson said over the weekend that the important demonstrations are about "shared economic security." See, Occupy Atlanta, this is how you treat a civil rights icon. (Animal NY)

>> Twenty-five-year-old Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was released today after five years in captivity by Hamas for the exchange of 1,077 Palestinian prisoners (many of whom were arrested for planning or carrying out terrorist attacks). Shalit, who looked frail as he saluted the prime minister, said, "I hope this deal will lead to peace." Did five years in captivity make him foolish too? (Ha'aretz)

>> Support for the legalization of marijuana rose from 34 percent of Americans in 2003 to 50 percent today. Just in time for A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas! (Gallup)
