Who needs nationwide searches to fill state-level jobs — some of which come with six-figure salaries — when you can just appoint Georgia lawmakers and lobbyists to the job? James Salzer takes a look at some of Gov. Nathan Deal's picks for state gigs:
Deal has appointed three state lawmakers and a former House member to six-figure jobs in the past two months. Overall, at least seven current or former legislators have gotten top state jobs since Deal took office in January. And officials say he is backing another former state lawmaker to run the Department of Transportation. In addition, at least three lobbyists have been hired to run key state agencies in less than a year.
Those jobs include the Stone Mountain Memorial Association, the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and deputy treasurer, among other posts.
Sure, some of Deal's picks served on legislative committees that dealt with similar issues. But some new faces — ones with experience leading such agencies and offices — surely doesn't hurt, does it?

How is this surprising? Everyone knew Deal was a crooked rat before he was elected, but there's no stopping a guy with an (R) next to his name in this state.
Deal was too dirty for the U.S. House. What does that tell you?
What is stunning is that Deal actually appears an upgrade over Sonny Purdue.
I wouldn't go so far as to call him an upgrade. Granted, he's actually letting those of us in incorporated cities vote on Sunday alcohol sales (today, in fact!) but with 83 of his 87 appointed posts going to white people, he's stepped way back from the Perdue administration regarding diversity. I'm no fan of affirmative action, but that's no longer representative of this state, if you check here:

Nevermind the shadiness involving his position in state government and his family's business, or the ridiculous and disproportionately harmful smackdown on illegal immigrants.
