Is that a death knell or are you just happy to see me, Herman?
Two different polls released today — one performed by CNN, the other by Public Policy Polling — indicate that pizzatician and maybe-sexual harasser Herman Cain is no longer leading the GOP pack. CNN says he's down 11 points since last month to 14 percent, which moves him into a distant third place. The Public Policy poll says Cain is down five points to 25 percent, but has moved into second.
Here's CNN on the effects of the allegations ...
"Cain is struggling with the charges of sexual harassment, and while most Republicans tend to dismiss those charges, roughly four in 10 Republicans think this is a serious matter and tend to believe the women who made those charges," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. The survey indicates that only a bare majority of Republicans tend to believe Cain, and more than a third say he should end his presidential campaign. Among the general public, Cain has a bigger credibility problem - 50% of all Americans say they tend to believe the women and only a third say they believe Cain.
MEANWHILE, look who's making a major comeback. It's NEWT, who has taken the GOP lead according to the Public Policy Poll (CNN has him in second behind Mittens Romney).
Despite the discrepancies, Newt has seen a surge in both polls ...
Gingrich's lead caps an amazing comeback he's made over the last 5 months. In June his favorability nationally with Republican voters plummeted all the way to 36/49. Now he's at 68/23, representing a 58 point improvement in his spread since then. As recently as August Gingrich was mired in single digits at 7%, and even in September he was at just 10%. He's climbed 18 points in less than 2 months. There's reason to think that if Cain continues to fade, Gingrich will continue to gain. Among Cain's supporters 73% have a favorable opinion of Gingrich to only 21% with a negative one. That compares to a 33/55 spread for Romney with Cain voters and a 32/53 one for Perry. They like Gingrich a whole lot more than they do the other serious candidates in the race.
Just last week, the Wall Street Journal ran an opinion piece about Gingrich's chances of getting the nomination — and winning the presidency ...
His rise in the polls suggests that more and more Republicans are absorbing that fact, along with the possibility that Mr. Gingrich's qualifications all 'round could well make him the most formidable contender for the contest with Barack Obama.

"'Even when I see my name on a list of potential candidates, I think, you gotta be kidding me—Newt Gingrich?' said Gingrich, frowning and shaking his head in disbelief. 'People are actually getting excited about the guy who engineered the 1995 government shutdown? I'm sorry, but that's just sad.'"
Romney-Gingrich 2012: the guy who drove to Canada with the family dog strapped to the roof of the car, and the guy who had his wife served with divorce papers in the hospital!
Ya'll sound worried. You want McCain again? He was pretty lame. How 'bout Ron Paul third party? That'll give you a stiffy.
One of these disgusting guys is your next prez unless The Bamster conquers China and cures cancer.
Though....and I can't believe we find ourselves in a situation that warrants such a statement ...... He maybe the best one to be at the top of the Republican polls this go around.
"One of these disgusting guys is your next prez"
Uh, no. Obama could fry Kermit's legs in front of him and it wouldn't matter. He could fly a tiny Kenyan flag from his extended middle finger at his next press conference and it'd be fine. That's how bad these republican candidates are.
Actually Mitt could win. Because people think he will be a moderate and he's just saying stuff for those folks.
Though he scares me the most, since he'll be so worried about proving he's a conservative or pleasing the conservatives that he actually could be worse. Sort of like the gay person whose a homophobe because he's overcompensating. http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/201…
Mitt's the only relatively "sane" republican candidate with a chance despite the fact that he's a cult member. I guess he's hoping those I'm-a-Mormon-&-I'm-normal commercials & billboards help him takeover.
Sure he's sane, but that doesn't change the fact he scares me because I fear he'll overcompensate trying to prove he's a "strong" conservative.
Huntsman on the other hand...
The last few comments have it right, and right is scary, in a number of ways. I'm not enamored of (with?) the current President; but, he's a much better choice that the alternatives including Romney. And I think that Romney has the only shot at beating him.
"don't the numbers only give the "generic" republican an edge against our cryptomuslim in chief?"
since when have sissy 'numbers' mattered to a republican
they live in a safe little bubble where everyone they know hates obama so they just can't see how he won't get re-elected even though those of us in the real world will hold our noses and vote for a guy who isn't crazy
all this GOP primary whipsawing and bickering over teahadist scraps is just driving the bulk of moderates safe into the hands of the creeping shariah conspiracy
honestly obama faces more of a threat from voter apathy than right-wing activism at this point
EVERY democrat has more to fear from voter demobilization than from a mobilized republican party, historically.
Sounds like Ann Coulter is right on this one...

Just Chicago style thuggery politics as ususal...
America is so used to it by now it won't matter.
