For the past two years, the top position in the Reed administration has been occupied, essentially, by a loaned executive. Peter Aman took a leave of absence as head partner in the Atlanta office of Bain & Co. to join the mayor in January 2010 for what was supposed to be a one-year gig as the city's chief operating officer.

(If Bain rings a bell, you're probably either the CEO of a multinational corporation who's hired the global consulting firm to restructure your company or you've read somewhere that it's where GOP non-frontrunner Mitt Romney made his rep as a business honcho.)

Anyway, Aman re-upped as COO for this year, but as of Dec. 9, he's outta there, so Reed needed to name a replacement. Although I haven't seen a press release yet, the word is out around City Hall, so I'm going to go ahead and out Duriya Farooqui as the new interim COO.

This will not come as a surprise to insiders. Farooqui has been deputy COO for more than a year now and, before that, she was in charge of the Office of Program Management (whatever that was) under Shirley Franklin.

I haven't heard that Reed has launched a search for a permanent COO, so I'm going to guess this is something of a probationary appointment and, if all goes well, the "interim" part will go away.

And for all you CEOs out there, Aman is now ready to restructure your multinational shizit.

Duriya Farooqui is one of the consulting figures, a la Peter Aman, involved in the Franklin administration, who started the city making data driven decisions. Peter commanded respect because of his rep in the business community. I'm not sure Duriya Farooqui has that same rep.

It will be interesting to see how she interacts with other cabinet officials and the council. I think she's only 33 or 34 which is a little young to get much respect from CT and the crew.

Looking at Farooqui's very impressive experience, I would think she's probably closer to 40. Not that it makes much of a difference anyway, since CT and the crew barely have any respect for themselves. They like to pick little fights with the Mayor every now and then, but at the end of the day (and when it's re-election time), they will fall in line right behind him. The last "important" legislation I can remember CT sponsoring was the saggy pants bill. Useful, but not groundbreaking.

Who cares; Reed 'suks' and so does his admin! Glad CL is always promoting the COA agenda...

His Hire one photo on the city's website; with him out front; is all he cares about: himself and his ego!

With all due respect, Duriya Farooqui was not "in charge of the Office of Program Management" during the Franklin administration. She was a staff member who reported directly to David Edwards who was a senior advisor. One of her responsibilities was the launch of the City's online dashboard reporting database.

Never judge a book by it's cover, or a person by her resume. She came on as the ATL STAT person for the city. However, a person should first understand the departments and the way they function before she/he can assist in setting goals or determining measurements that tie into the overarching goals of the city. Being a Harvard grad isn't enough...personality and humility should be a requirement. Being a know-it-all who doesn't really know isn't productive, and a waste of our tax money. Just another of the Candler Park cronies...yes, there are more.
