CORE navigates the hallway

Decatur dance company presents new work in collaboration with New York-based KDNY

Image CORE Performance Company is collaborating with New York-based dance troupe KDNY to perform the installation Navigating the Hallway this weekend. Navigating the Hallway was originally conceived by choreographer and KDNY founder Kathleen Dyer: the work will be expanded for the performance in CORE Studios with additional choreography by CORE Performance Company.

The piece uses a set of five area rugs to represent the rooms of people living in close proximity, though isolated by their adjoining walls. With the performance space confined to each rug, the audience will be free to travel from “room to room” and observe the eccentricities of each individual character’s movement and mood.

CORE Performance Company performs “Navigating the Hallway” in collaboration with New York company KDNY on Thursday and Friday, November 17-18 at 8 p.m. at CORE Studios, 139 Sycamore St., on the square in downtown Decatur. Tickets are $10 general and $5 student/senior/artist and are available online at COREdance.org and at the door. Additionally, there will be a free Lunchtime in the Studio event at noon on Thursday, November 17, that will offer a glimpse into the creative process behind these performances.
