The Legoland Discovery Center currently under construction in Phipps Plaza will not, it appears, host miniature brick replicas of the Clermont Lounge, MJQ, or the Inserection on Cheshire Bridge Road. Which is a shame, because that's where the tourists are going these days, folks!
The team behind the 30,000-square-foot, $15 million center announced today which Atlanta landmarks will be recreated with tiny, interlocking bricks and featured in the attraction's planned "Miniland." As Curbed Atlanta notes, the selections aren't that surprising.
Bank of America Building
Fox Theatre
Georgia Dome
Georgia Aquarium
High Museum of Art
King and Queen Towers
Stone Mountain
The Varsity
Turner Field
World of Coca-Cola
I'm interested to see how Stone Mountain will actually turn out. And I hope the Dome will include a cutaway on one side so we can see thousands of little Lego people sitting in the stands and male cheerleaders shooting t-shirts out of air cannons. And scalpers. Still, tiny replicas of big things! Family friendly entertainment! A new place for people to visit while stoned! The attraction's scheduled to open next April.

Why not the Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta Public School offices? Aren't they in the news all the time?
Lamer. As if Coke needs further promotion. Plus it's shitty architecture. And the GA Dome? Woopty fuckin' do.
Stone Mountain should be interesting tho. Can't wait to see how they pull off the Confederate heros with Legos. And hopefully there's a mini tram with mini yellow people.
It's not good when the majority of our "landmarks" are either private businesses or office towers. :(
Where do you get food, clothing, entertainment, services, etc. if not at a private bidness? America, hell, welcome to life unless you live in North Korea.
Let's see your list of landmarks to commemorate. I'll give you MLK gravesite, now come on....
What about the State Capitol Building (and government complex)? Atlanta City Hall?
Also will there be Lego trees, bungalows, and the Chattahoochee?
Also, I would put the Hyatt Regency and Peachtree Plaza on there as well, as much as I pretty much can't stand Portmanlandia.
